Coach Jon Prepares for Amateur MMA Title Bout
In one month the DMV’s (D.C. Maryland, and Virginia) longest running Mixed Martial Arts promotion, Operation Octagon, will be putting on one of the biggest MMA cards of the year. With over 30 professional and amateur fights set for July 28th this event is sure to be a big one.
Fighting in the main event for the Light Weight Championship will be Crazy 88 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Purple Belt, Jon Delbrugge. Jon took the first half of 2012 off of MMA competition to focus on the “Grand Slam” series of International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournaments. Traveling all over the globe, Jon competed against the worlds top BJJ fighters in his category. Jon was able to add another international title to his resume after closing out the middleweight division with his teammate at the prestigious Brazilian Nationals in Rio De Janeiro. As soon as the World Championships came to a close in early June. Jon began to switch the training more towards MMA. Adjusting the training is something that the Crazy 88 “homegrown” fighter has become accustomed to. After the 2011 BJJ season, Jon focused all of his efforts on MMA and had 4 fights in the summer improving his record to 5-0, with only one fight making it out of the first round.
Jon will be looking to make his return against a seasoned opponent, the champion, Mike Lawrence (6-3) from Richmond Va. Mike has been very active on the MMA scene fighting every other month and is the Champion of 3 different MMA organizations. This will be Jon’s toughest fight to date.
With an undefeated record and a title on the line, Jon understands that the only thing important is the preparation. Under the guidance of Julius Park and the rest of the team Jon has everything he needs to be successful.
