Onslaught Fights : Redemption Results – Crazy 88 Goes Undefeated

The Crazy 88 Mixed Martial Arts Competition team ventured to Winchester Virginia to compete on the Onslaught Fight card. The two members fighting on the card were competitors Jon “Devastator” Delbrugge and Al “Big Sal” Washington. This wasn’t the duo’s first time fighting on the same card, in fact they both debuted in Vermont’s Burlington Brawl in 2010 where they were both victorious. August 6th would be no different.

The “Devastator” was up first, his opponent was an experienced fighter from the Virginia area carrying a 3-3 record. Jon wasted no time in taking his opponent down to the mat and controlling him for the entire round. The 2nd and 3rd round would be much of the same tactics. Delbrugge secured early take downs and positionally dominated his opponent with guard passes, mounts, and an array of small “close quarter” strikes. Delbrugge won the bout Unanimous Decision earning (30-27) on every judges card improving his undefeated record to 3-0.

The next bout was very interesting. On paper, Big Sal’s opponent was by far the more accomplished athlete being a collegiate wrestler and multiple x state champion. Not only did Big Sal’s opponent have the credentials but he also had the look! His opponent definitely “looked the part” of a scary, muscle bound, heavyweight championship athlete. Big Sal must have not gotten the memo as he came out peppering his opponent with strikes while confusing him with Dominick Cruz style footwork. Big Sal defended all of the take down attempts in the first round and had everyone on their feet. With the first round being somewhat close, Sal did not leave any doubt as to who won the second round. Big Sal landed even more punches this time bloodying the nose of his opponent and completely wearing him down.

Al showed heavy handed striking and great takedown defense on his way to a KO victory!

Big Sal kept a staggering pace throughout the entire fight. It was too much for his opponent, in the beginning of the third round Sal’s opponent answered the bell only to fall down and hit the mat before a punch was even thrown. In a bizarre ending to a great fight Big Sal’s opponent could not continue and it was ruled a TKO. The computer hacking, facebook surfing, government employee improves his MMA record to 2-0! Big Sal will be out the next four weeks on account of breaking his hand while throwing a flurry of combinations so look for Al to be back on the scene within the next few months.

Next event for the MMA squad will be September 24th as they go back to Winchester to fight for Onslaught once again! Make sure you check back as Crazy 88 will debuting some new members of the the fight team on that card!
